Alaska Hunting Guide Buck Bowden

Alaska Hunting Guide Buck Bowden Hidden Alaska GuidesWell hello there, My name is Mike “Buck” Bowden. I am the owner/operator of Hidden Alaska Guides and Outfitters. I would like to welcome you to my little slice of heaven.

In 1970 at the age of 14 I moved to Nome, Alaska. I spent all of my free time out enjoying the wilderness. This naturally led me to the place that I am today. Hunting, fishing, camping, carving wood bowls by hand and anything outdoors have always been my passion. I started guiding hunters in 1974; and through the years I paid my dues and worked my way up the guiding ranks to hold the title of Master Guide (#M-80).

In 1976 I made my way into the wilds of Alaska with the nearest human 30+ miles away to stake my slice of heaven with just my horses as company. After making the state regulated improvements they let me purchase the land that I homesteaded. This is the current site that the Hidden Alaska Lodge rests on today.

Before I built the lodge and cabins that you will visit I lived, in a 14’x14’ dirt floored cabin. From these primitive quarters I lived on my own for 6 years. I lived off the land regardless of the conditions. This year round bush living offered up the unique opportunity for me to live and guide without interruption. I would only go into town (Anchorage) 3 or 4 times a year.

Along my journey I have been a trapper, homesteader, horse packer, river rafter and big game hunting guide. I am a Commercial, Instrument, Multi-Engine, and Seaplane rated pilot. In a former career I was an Alaska Fish and Wildlife enforcement officer. I now have built a lodge with several out buildings and cabins. These structures I built by hand with logs from trees I felled & milled onsite myself. I spend a good deal of my summers getting ready for the fall hunting season and making the lodge better. Keeping it in tiptop shape for all of our guests is a job in and of itself. The lodge offers a great opportunity for you to escape and enjoy the outdoors.

Let me help you find the adventure you are looking for even if it’s not hunting. We have snowmachining, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and spring. Aurora borealis viewing in the dark of winter is also possible. Four wheeling, rafting and hiking adventures are available to be booked in the late spring and summer.

If hunting is your thing then the lodge at Hidden Alaska is your place. We have great bear and moose and the occasional caribou or wolf right from the lodge. Our remote camps and float trips will fill any other need you may have. Get ahold of me and let’s get your Alaska dream come true started, whatever that may be.
