Guide-Assisted Trapping Adventures
Experience the adventure of running an established Alaska trapline with your partner and life-long Alaskan, Steve Porkorny. Steve was born and raised here in Alaska and he has a passion for trapping, with over 35 years of experience.
All furs caught are yours, and they will be properly prepped for shipment to the tannery or your taxidermist, as you prefer.
Through Hidden Alaska Guides and Outfitters, we are offering two trapping adventure packages.
The Trailblazer Package puts you on a 42-mile trapline deep in Alaska’s Nelchina Basin, where you will travel by snowmachine, staying in remote cabins as you run the line with Steve.
Start with a pick-up in Anchorage on Day 1, followed by a 3-4 hour drive north to the Nelchina Basin, where Steve’s trapline is located. It’s a very scenic drive that ends up at the local lodge, where Steve’s newer 2012 snowmachines are located. After gearing up, you will run a half-hour with Steve by snowmachine to his lodge-like home, complete with satellite TV, Internet, and a big cozy wood stove to base out of for the next ten days. As circumstances dictate, a night or two away from base camp may be necessary, and you will stay in comfortable but rustic remote line cabins before heading back to base. Ice fishing for trophy lake trout is also available if you want to take a break from trapping.
Trap by Wings Package
This package has you flying seventy miles into the heart of the Alaska wilderness, where you will run a trapline with Steve, based out of Hidden Alaska’s comfortable lodge. Mike “Buck” Bowden has been trapping the area near the lodge since the 1970’s, and it has turned out to be rich in beaver, marten, ermine, wolf, lynx and several other species.
The following furbearers are available on our trapping adventures: Wolf, wolverine, lynx, marten, fox, otter, beaver, mink, and ermine.
Both packages include hearty breakfasts with your choice of eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, potatoes and toast. Dinners include choices of steak, seafood, roasted chicken, ribs, rice, potatoes, green salads and breads. Beverages on-site include juices, milk, water, coffee, and tea. Alcohol can be purchased and brought in by the client. Clients will need to purchase an Alaska trapping license.
